Bandon Town Hall gets a face lift

May 29, 2009

Finally a miracle happened last week.  The town hall was painted!  We have pleaded for a couple of years for the painting work to be completed so are really happy now!  A thousand thanks to the powers that be at the town hall.

Bandon’s Spring Flower Display

May 24, 2009

This year we put polyanthas and tulips into all the beds in Bandon for a spring display.  We were fortune to be able to rescue 50% of the plants from Cork City Council last year when they were disposing of their 2008 planting in the city.  We stored the plants in  a garden over the summer and transplated them into the tubs at the end of October.

A big thank you to the Perrotts and to Barry and Mary O’Farrell for sponsoring the daffodils and tulips that we planted!

Hanging Baskets on McSwiney Quay

Bandon's hanging baskets

Bandon's hanging baskets

2008 was the first year that we had hanging baskets in Bandon so we were very much the novices at how the process would work, eg planting, hanging, watering, feeding and not to mention the choice of plants and colours.

Each time we visited other towns with hanging baskets last year, we examined what plants they were displaying and how they looked compared with ours.  We hope that our baskets will look much more impressive this year.  We have armed ourselves with a sturdy pump that can even suck water out of the river so watch out for the watering team who will be much in evidence in Bandon during the summer months.

Allin Institute Garden gets a facelift!

May 23, 2009

We have been hard at work in the garden outside the Allin Institute.  We have pruned back the shrubs and have painted the benches.  We hope this work has been appreciated.

Is Eircom bust?

May 23, 2009

We (Bandon Tidy towns) write endless letters and we make endless phone calls but all in vain!  The Eircom exchange is on the main approach road into Bandon and looks terrible.  We can’t even convince the powers that be to give it a power wash.  So this leads me to believe that Eircom is bust.  Incidentally, this building is managed by Eircom in Waterford so is it ‘Out of sight and out of mind??????’

Check out the photo in case you have missed it!

A group of us from Bandon Tidy Towns took part in the Bandon St Patricks Day parade.  It was a really sunny day and it was great to see the streets so full of people.

Annual Bandon Spring Clean

May 19, 2009
The National Spring Clean is Ireland’s largest anti litter campaign which takes place in April. We do our bit each year by encouraging the community in Bandon to help us to remove unsightly litter from around the town.

Full marks this year go to Laragh National School pupils who, in spite of poor weather, tackled the town park and even hauled a supermarket trolley from one of the streams. Well done also to the brownies and guides and to the presentation boys and girls primary schools who all did a superb job cleaning up.

Bandon Tidy Towns

May 19, 2009

We are a group of about 20 volunteers who meet every Tuesday evening at 7pm at Hartes Car Park in Bandon from March until October.  Our aim is to improve the quality of our surroundings which means that we tackle a wide range of projects – painting, litter picking, planting, watering, weeding etc etc.  Feel free to join us as we are always looking for volunteers.  Just pitch up any Tuesday evening – even if only for one evening in the season.
