A Cycle Rack

A Cycle Rack

To coincide with National Cycle Week, we now have a cycle rack in Bandon in Ballymodan Place below the Church of Ireland and outside one of the entrances to the Supervalu shopping centre.  It’s in a very visible spot which we hope will act as a major deterent to anybody thinking of helping themselves to a bike!

Work continues with gusto

June 17, 2009

Volunteers have been hard at work this week.  Various tubs have been painted as have the benches in the playground.  Sadly graffitti appeared on one of the benches less than 24 hours after it was painted.  We are chasing up the CCTV.

The hydrangeas have now been weeded and the area behind strimmed.  We thank the FAS workers who helped us with this project.  The knotweed near the beds will be cleared within the next week.

The bed in Ball Alley Lane near the Hamilton High School has been weeded and we have planted begonias around the outside.  Sadly some of the geraniums have been stolen which is so frustrating for volunteers who spend hours of their time tending these plants.

Volunteers also cleared the wall and footpath near the Poachers Inn.  It was covered in weeds which were invading a well used walk along the Clon Road.

Our AGM will be held next Wednesday, 24th June at 7pm in the Plunkett Room of the Munster Arms hotel and will last no longer than 1 hour.

Bandon Tidy Towns Street Collection

June 15, 2009

A big thank you to the towns people of Bandon who gave so generously to our street collection a week ago.  We raised euro 1,136 which will go towards the cost of our summer plants.  We hope that you will enjoy all our displays – All the hanging baskets which should look great next month once they are established, our beds outside the old tourist office, in the shambles, opposite the Methodist Church, along St Patricks Quay, under the trees on South Main Street and on the New Road.

We played safe this year and chose begonias so the slugs will have to feast elsewhere for a change!

Summer plants and baskets awaiting planting

Bandon Tidy Towns volunteers turned out in good numbers for the summer planting ceremony and we were blessed with good weather.  Many hands made light work and it didn’t take too long to plant up all the beds and water them.  Lets hope that we will have a great display this summer.  We have opted for begonias this year.  We loved some of our plants last year but so did the slugs.  Luckily, slugs don’t like begonias!!
